What are the PRO’S of online teletherapy?

UCLA researchers looked at 60 studies and found that seeing a therapist virtually is just as effective as face to face sessions for most people dealing with anxiety, depression PTSD and relational issues. Another 40 studies found that online therapist for depression to more effective than no therapy in any form.

Online therapy can take less time away from the office or your workday or worry about traffic. No need to travel miles to meet up with your therapist. Log in to a site, and the session can happen wherever you are comfortable.

  • Compared to traditional in-person therapy, it is often less expensive. Your Colorado State Licensed clinician is able to charge a lower rate because they do not have to pay rent to a physical space along with all the expenses that come with it. Skip the time consuming, stressful and expensive commute, and lack of professionals in your area.

  • Online communication is very comfortable for many people, especially younger adults or those who use technology often. More people are using email, webinars and text messaging to communicate, and it can seem more comfortable or easier than talking to someone in person, especially when revealing personal or private information.

  • It can provide access to those who can’t get to an office. In some rural communities, the nearest therapy office may be an hour or two drive away. Some people with chronic illnesses, disabilities, demanding jobs or childcare issues may not be able to drive or easily able to leave their home. In these situations, Web- or telephone-based therapy may be their only option for help.

  • Insurance (when deductibles are met) are likely to pay for all the therapy with no co-pay issues. We contract with several agencies that handle insurance and billing so we can do what we do best-focus on offering you the best care possible. We can help you check your insurance.

What are the CON’S of online teletherapy?

  • Some affect (emotional) awareness and body language can be lost via telehealth. However, this only serves to highlight how important communication is and a skillful clinician is not only able to discern when something is occurring, but ask questions when appropriate and will encourage independence and autonomy by modeling helpful communication for and with clients. Yes, somatic psychotherapy can be done via teletherapy.

  • Studies support that whether therapy is in person or online, the most successful therapy occurs based on the therapeutic relationship. I work hard to establish and maintain a solid connection with every single one of my clients. I am still able to track and catch body cues and voice tones and I ask questions when appropriate to to see how you’re doing and how best I can assist and support you.

Is this the right tool to help me? While research demonstrates that online teletherapy is a very effective tool for many, many issues, it is not appropriate for everyone or for every issue. The free 20 minute phone consultation can help aid in this discovery.

Some sites advertise that they offer therapy, but those claims may be misleading or false. For example, the people behind those apps may not be licensed or qualified to provide therapy. Read about Taya J. Matoy and her qualifications in the ABOUT section.
